Having read what everyone has said up to now, I agree with Mr. Richardson and Mr. Duff. I would like to see a preapproved provider. It certainly could be the professional societies we all belong to, VAS, NSPE, ASCE or AIA. As Mr. Richardson said, VAS has been working with other states for pre approval and that preapproval has been granted.
We all learn by experience, but technology has caught up with us all. Continuing Education is the vehicle we all need to keep abreast of our profession.
I am also licensed in NC and they have 15 hours of Continuing Education requirements a year, not 16 hours every two years. Our regulations need to be written so these hours, out of state, count toward our Virginia Continuing Education Requirements
Virginia is the last state in the central east cost region that does not have continuing education, we are going to be denied licensure in other states if we do not have the same rules and regulations our adjoining states have.
I am somewhat surprised that most of the comments that have come from PE's and Architects have been against this continuing education legislation. They have many more rules to follow in their profession than us surveyors have.
Having been in the profession for 42 years and licensed to survey and design subdivisions (B license), I support continuing education. Lets all support it, get together and help DPOR provide us the regulations we can all be happy with.
