As a patient who has received dental hygiene care for many years, I am uncomfortable with the idea of a dental assistant scaling without proper training and guidlines. Patients should not be left at risk of gum disease due to partial scaling of removing calculus above the gumline. I want to know that the individual caring for me is competent in the skills they are providing. I ask the Board to ensure my safety by giving parameters and restrictions allowing a dental assistant to scale.
