I urge people to start looking into the companies and corporate entities that own the nursing homes in Virginia. These companies know how to use every loophole to save their corporation money and not provide resources that the nursing homes need to adequately take care of the residents. The employees of the nursing home are aware of the issues however, when it takes multiple weeks to get resources approved to be delivered to the nursing home the problems remain the same. These for profit companies are truly for-profit. For example I have worked at a nursing home where the budget per resident for meals is $.11 dictated by the corporate company. Additionally there is no federal guideline for ratio for CNA to patient. Corporations do not have to staff the buildings appropriately because there is no federal guideline that holds them accountable. VDH coming in and holding them accountable means nothing when corporate doesn’t care. if VDH begins to shut down nursing homes or pause admissions where are the people who do need housing/nursing care supposed to go? This is not a viable option.
