COVID-19 Vaccinations Should Be Required for All School Employees and Students

Just as public health demands that we all be vaccinated against catastrophic diseases such as smallpox and polio, everyone inside a public school be vaccinated against COVID-19. Students need to be in class, and teachers need to be able to focus on student learning. Failure to vaccinate leads to illnesses, absences, loss of consecutive time on task, and loss of learning while exacerbating the already difficult job of teachers. Moreover, lack of vaccination leads to the spread of COVID-19 in the surrounding community. Parents and students who do not want to comply with a vaccine mandate can do schooling at home or online.
