| Action Summary | Chapter 552 of the 2025 Acts of the Assembly directs the Board of Education to amend its regulations to earn an add-on endorsement for Algebra in order to eliminate the requirements that candidates must complete coursework in calculus, Euclidian Geometry, probability and statistics, and discrete mathematics. This proposed regulatory action eliminates the requirement that candidates take these courses from 8VAC20-23-440, which provides the relevant requirements needed to earn an algebra I add-on endorsement. Additionally, Chapter 552 states that candidates may receive a passing score on the Praxis Algebra I (5162) add-on endorsement exam in lieu of the requirements that candidates complete coursework in elementary functions, introductory college algebra, trigonometry, and linear algebra. The regulation will be amended to include this directive. |
