Description of Proposed Guidance Document Changes
The revised edition of the Guidelines for Specialized Health Care Procedures, Third Edition, (2023), is a resource document for school personnel and is intended to enhance the educational experience of students with health care needs by providing guidance to school nurses, school administrators, teachers, and other school staff regarding the healthcare of students within the school setting. The Guidelines provide evidence based practices, practical health information and recommendations for the development of local programs and policies related to health care services for students. Through these Guidelines, VDH is committed to continued collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education to assure that all schools in the Commonwealth have a safe and healthy learning environment.
