Over the years my overservation of recently graduated veterinarians is that they are woefully lacking in practical experience.  Therefor, I am in agreement with veterinary students gaining practical experience earlier in their education; however, the owner of a treated animal needs to be informed as to what procedures the student will be doing and if it is a procedure that only a licensed veterinarian is permitted to perform, then the owner's consent must  be required.
