There is no reason for this prohibition.  The fact our state allows lawful open and conceal carry(with permit) and somewhere such as a a state forest you cannot is absurd.  Think of enforcement against the back drop of citizens being able to defend themselves.  The sad truth is that there are low crime rates where weapons are allowed.  Let us not have a safe haven for criminals to know where they can take advantage of unarmed citizens.  After all, criminals would not abide anyway.
