If we don't have students learning and practicing and gaining experience who is going to take over in the next generations and actually do a successful job if nobody ever got any experience as a student. You can not just magically know what to do once you are not a training student anymore if nobody ever let you gain the experience. Its not like students are having a free for all on the animals....they are being taught and they are learning and if the vet didnt think they were doing a good job they wouldnt let them go at it without any mentoring. I worked in a veterinarian clinic as a kennel worker and the students that worked there were awesome.
