Unnecessary change, loss of valuable experience

Changes to the law would make client interactions combersome, and would result in a loss of invaluable learning experiences for aspiring technicians and veterinarians. A major part of the job requires hands on technical skills that can only be gained in practice, under supervision from knowledgable mentors. Requiring written permission from owners will undoubtably reduced the number of teaching cases and result in under developed skill sets and graduates are are ill prepared for their jobs. We need to graduate stronger technicians and veterinarians, not weaker ones.

It will also make practices less likely to mentor students because of the increased paperwork and legal obligations. There is already a shortage of technicians in Virginia and this would only make the problem greater.

I think this law would being doing a great disservice to the public and the veterinary field by turning out newly licensed professionals who are not prepared to perform their job duties. Ultimately sacrificing patient care, and making the job search harder for new grads.
