Veterinary students should never be allowed to provide medical care to animals without supervision by faculty.  Students, obviously, are in a learning environment, are not competent to provide care independently,  and faculty need to be closely involved in assessment, diagnosis, and the development of an appropriate treatment plan for all animals.
