Supervision

I would have thought this was a given, however, using common sense rarely is. A student is just that, a student. They should ALWAYS be supervised and should never be performing a procedure without direct and constant supervision. Once being a veterinary student too, I would have been freaked out if left alone to possibly harm a pet; sadly I know it happens. We have students come into my clinic for a 6 week rotation, they are basically technicians for 80% of their time and 20% is spent with their mentor Doctor. Not doing procedures, but coached on exams, diagnostics and treatment options. I am in a private practice, so would not be letting a student actually perform any procedure that a qualified technician was not allowed to perform. That is what their schools are for. If it needs to be written and made into a law/rule to make people actually follow this, then so be it.
