Please Repeal TRAP

Please repeal the Targeted Regulations on Abortion Providers.  These regulations have the goal of reducing access to abortion, not protecting women's health or women's health care.

  • The use of regulations that should improve medical care in order to reduce access to health care is inappropriate and unethical.
  • TRAP forces many clinics to close which provide essential, timely services for women's health care.  Abortion is but one of these services.  Forcing these clinics to close puts women's health at risk
  • By forcing clinics to close, TRAP makes it harder for many women to find the medical services they need.
  • Because clinics predominantly serve women who cannot afford hospital services, even if they can arrange for leave from work and childcare to travel for access, TRAP regulations pose an undue and disproportionate hardship along class lines.  Poor women bear the brunt of the effect of this legislation.
  • Reproductive health services, by their nature, require timely delivery.  Even those who can afford to travel or purchase services from hospitals and private providers, face added health risks for themselves because of the logistical burdens imposed by the effects of TRAP legislation.

Women's health is family health:  when women cannot receive the health and reproductive care that they need, their children, their families, and their communities are dramatically affected.  Imposing such a burden on our women and our communities, in order to accomplish a political goal, is unjust.  Please review and repeal TRAP regulations in order to maintain the health services we currently have, and reconsider health regulations with improvement of service delivery instead of political goals in mind.
