Why is there even an issue on essential health and safety for abortion centers?

Presumably, our society has advanced beyond the level of unsterilized surgical equipment and wipe-down of hospital railings with dirty rags.  With all the concern that the medical community now has about infectious "super bugs",  and statistics on hospital-caused deaths, why are we even debating this issue?

Although I do not support abortions, I do believe that the tools, facilities, and equipment  with which and where such surgical (and life-threatening) procedures are performed should be subject to the same standards and level of care that is expected of any  accredited and licensed surgical center.  Why should any abortion center that fails to maintain those standards be allowed to operate, while other surgical centers, equally deficient, but performing non-reproductive surgery be closed down?  Is the life of a woman undergoing abortion any less precious than the life of any other patient?  The answers are so obvious that I am beginning to wonder whether the abortion "ïndistry"and related special interests are simply seeking an arbitrary and discriminatory exemption that would put profit ahead of human life.  Let's step up to the plate and insist that abortion centers abide by the same standards as the rest of the medical community.
