Protection of Pregnant Women and Children

Please support the Board of Correction's common sense regulations to limit the use of physical restraints during the labor and childbirth of inmates.  The American Medical Association, the Ameircan Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Americna Public Health Association all support limiting the use of restraints on pregnant inmates. I commend the Board for proposing regulations that limit  the use of such restraints, and I urge it to make these regulations permanent. Using restraints is not only inhumane, it also restricts proper medical care, endangering the lives of both mother and child.  In addition; restraints after birth prevent bonding between mother and child, which is essential to the health and wellbeing of both.

Please make permanent the regulations that limit the use of physical restraints during the  labor and childbirth of inmates.
