I strongly support the recently submitted petition to the VA Board of Nursing to recognize and provide licensure to Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. This recommendation has been endorsed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Institute of Medicine and will allow the CNSs in Virginia to practice to the full extent of their advanced education, so necessary in today’s healthcare climate.
