Purpose of the meeting
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host the second Community Engagement meeting for the Cedar Run, Mine Run, Mountain Run, and the Lower Rapidan River Basin Watershed Cleanup Plan on June 27th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.. The meeting is open to the public and any member of the public may participate in the proceedings. The meeting participants will assist in the development of a cleanup plan, also known as an Implementation Plan (IP), to address bacteria impairments of the Cedar Run, Mine Run, Mountain Run, and the Lower Rapidan River Basin in Orange County, Culpeper County, and Spotsylvania County, which have been listed in Virginia’s § 303(d) list of impaired waters for failing to meet Virginia’s water quality standards due to an exceedance in E. coli. The meeting will discuss recommendations on implementation strategies, associated costs, outreach, and funding opportunities, implementation timeline, bacteria reduction goals and begin discussing the draft report.
