Game: Deer [4 VAC 15 ‑ 90]
|Description||This regulation enables the agency and the citizens to manage deer populations to control impacts to the human health, safety and livelihood of the people of Virginia. By allowing for the harvest and population control of deer the Department is providing for human health by reducing the chance for human/deer interaction. This regulation further provides for citizen safety by prescribing methods of take (i.e. seasons, bag limits, tackle, tagging requirements ). This regulation provides for the protection of personal property by allowing the control of deer numbers which may adversely affect real estate values or directly damage property by causing damage to crops, vehicles and landscapes. The regulation also enables the agency to efficiently and economically accomplish the important governmental function of deer management by enabling the citizens to participate in recreational deer hunting seasons. These activities provide recreational opportunity and stimulate the economic development of the Commonwealth. Deer hunting is the major portion of the 1.2 billion dollars hunting and fishing contributes to Virginia's economic well being. Specific examples include hunting land leases, hunter travel expenditures, and outdoor equipment purchases.|
