No to Metric

I recently had the pleasure of meeting with and talking to several of the members of the Virginia Aninal Control Association. Such a dedicated, caring group of animal advocates. However, I urge you to vote no to the metric legislation presently before you. If you just look at the numbers, you can see that the financial cost would be staggering. As a survivor of a horrific mauling by a dangerous dog, I must address the issue of the safety of the members of your communities. In my case, I stepped in to save my 5 year old grandson. My 15th surgery was in October. It has been two years since our attack and I have suffered greatly due to my injuries. I am now permanently disabled.  I feel strongly that in order to insure the safety of the public, the release of dangerous dogs into the communities you serve must be stopped. There must be complete transparency and release of information to potentional adopters or rescues of aggressive history and bite history of any dog in the system. When it gets down to it, failure to do so puts us all at risk. There may not be a 60 year old grandmother ready to put her life on the line for other attack victims like my lil grandson. A push to release dogs simply to achieve a set number ois unreasonable and should not be achieved without looking at the lives impacted by such a policy. As it stands, bite victims receive little justice, if any. $750.00 and a misdemeanor is barely a slap on the wrist isn’t it? Think of the most vulnerable members of your communities and protect them. Put their lives before dogs.  Please vote no. Thank you for your consideration.
