I am in strong support of portability for licensed professional counselors. I currenty am licensed in DC, since this is where my place of employment is located, but I have lived in Virginia for the last 10 years. Under the current VA requirements, I cannot apply for licensure by endorsement until I have had my DC license for at least 5 years. It seems ridiculous that I cannot take a job in the state I live in and support the mental health of my fellow Virginians because the state won't recognize my LPC. We have a serious lack of mental health professionals in our country and we're only getting in our own way if we don't make it easier for mental health professionals to move around freely and practice where it makes the most sense for them.
