It befuddles me to see people opposed this.

Criminals are going to carry, regardless of whatever rule is in effect. This change just evens the playing field, allowing honest citizens to carry a firearm without having to worry about being harrassed by some government busybody, or even worse, arrested after defending themselves against a criminal attack.
