Dry needling is outside of the PT scope of practice. In the PT programs I know about there is no use or education about the use of needles and certainly not filiform needles. Most dry needling courses are about as long as a three day weekend. I dont think that this is near enough training to keep patients safe let alone for it to be effective. Chinese medicine has many types of techniques including dry needling. Dry needling really is a type of acupuncture and should be treated as such.
