1. The form, as drafted, is a proper declaration. An affidavit should state the facts (questions on the registration form) and then reaffirmed. The form is proper and the affirmation really isn't redundant. 2. If the intent of the change is to treat an omission of a mandatory question as ok because it's somehow ratified by the affirmation, I would say it's not a clerical error to omit a mandatory question. Your proposed change will not make it so. It's procedually and substantially weakening the current form. As the change is proposed, one or several boxes, cumulatively, could be left off the registration form, and the registrar wouldn't know if it was careless, intentional or ignorance in the omission. If the state seeks to prosecute any voter fraud, the case of intent would be much stronger if all the boxes were required to be completed. And fraud is what we seek to protect against, of course, through the registration process. Voting is essential to who we are: a nation of the people by the people and for the people. Important enough to be addressed in the 14 th and 19 th amendments of the US Constitution. It may be inconvenient for the administration but it is essential to get it right. Let's do our duty in protecting the process, please.
