Thank goodness!

As someone who has registered many voters over the years, I applaud symplifying the form. It can and should be easier to use than this obsolete one. It also surprises me that the form does not contain the URL of the website of the SBE (sorry, State Department of Elections)! This is the 21st Century. Why are we not using our technological resources to make it easier for voters to register?

Rather than print a list of all the registrars' offices (which could become obsolete), why not a link to the website? Also, please have an obviously place on the form that explains that voters can register themselves online.

Also, many voters do not want to hand a stranger a piece of paper with their SSN on it--and they should not have to! This is a huge violaton of privacy in this day of stolen identities. Allow them to use their VA license number instead, if they have one. Otherwise, allow volunteers to turn in the forms with only the last four digits and let the registrar contact the individual to get the number, or cross reference with the DMV.

I also applaud the idea that when voters leave a section blank, their form would not be automatically rejected. Voter often miss a section-- because they are in a hurry or don't understand what they are supposed to do (or because the form is hard to read!)

Some registrars are more willing to mail an incomplete form back to the voter, while some just reject it. This discrepancy should change. ALL registrars should contact the person attempting to register and invite them to submit a complete form: online, in person, or by mail.
