Concerned Citizen

Hello, I am writing you to day to vioce my concern as a citizen after finding out that there is not a requirement for me to be told if a student will be caring for my pets and working dogs that are in the care of a vets office or at the vet schools. Making fully informed decisions is vitally important and a matter of consumer awarness and rights. As a pet owner it also means that this pet is my property and to not have the knowaldge of a student caring for my pets health care is not acceptable and leaves a space of greater liability for the vets office and vet schools. Some of my dogs are working animals and I rely on them for the livly hood of our farm. One of our dogs is a therapy dog for my son thus these dogs are very very valueable assets for my family both their relationships and the monies and energy that have been put into their lives from our family caring for them. I concider it negligent on both my part as a pet owner and on the part of the vet for our family to not be informed of such circumstances. I am very much in support of students learning about caring for animals in hands on situations and want to support this happening. I however also feel that it is vittally importnat for owners of animals in their care to be informed that a student will be working with their pets and what level of supervision the student will have from the vet and teachers. Simple healthy protocols can be put into place that will care for the needs for both the schools, the vet offices, pet owners and the pets themselves. So as a pet owner and a live stock owner I urge you to please take action to ensure a greater level of acountability as we care for the animals in our community.
