While TRAP legislation purports to protect women, it serves to reduce access to safe and legal abortion services. In doing so, it places women at risk for illegal, unregulated abortion procedures, or requires them to pay higher costs to be seen in one of the view clinics or hospitals that will still be "legal" after TRAP. Moreover, TRAP produces differential quality standards for similar (and far riskier) outpatient procedures. If TRAP is implemented, Virginians will continue to have far riskier out-patient procedures including dental, plastic, and orthopedic surgery under anesthesia at clinics and medical centers that are not required to meet the arduous standards placed on abortion providers. I urge you not to implement TRAP.
