Do not adopt these regulations

Currently having the state oversight of the Gifted Programs allows children to move between the Virginia school districts unimpeded and without a delay in their programs.  Adopting these provisions would allow each school district to develop their own standards, some of which will be good, others not so good.  This means that when a child changes school districts, they would have to be re-evaluated for the program.  This would be costly to the school districts and stressful to the child and the parents.

Unfortunately, particularly in times of budget issues, these are the programs that tend to get ignored or cut by the school districts.  Clearly, this would be a disservice to our children.  Having the funds earmarked for gifted services by the state ensures that the programs stay intact.
