Please keep central oversight for Gifted Programs.

I am not usually one to suggest anything over local regulation but my family has seen the effects of school budget cuts in the past in the state of Ohio where the local school district needed to pass levies to fund the schools. In our case, senior citizens and the local Amish population consistently voted down funding for schools because to them it had no effect. The schools suffered greatly and one of the first jobs to be cut by half was the gifted education teacher;

 I feel that the gifted program needs to be protected by a central organization has a clear understanding of the needs of gifted children. My child being gifted is a blessing but the term "gifted" is sometime a taboo and suggests that my child is receiving something more than her needs when it comes to her education. In fact, she is not receiving anything over her needs but she has special  "learning" needs just as a child in "special education" has specific needs. Because of misunderstandings about "gifted education",  local school  organizations might be more apt to put the gifted education on the "chopping block" and my child would suffer just as she would if she were misplaced in  regular education.
