I applaud the committee for undertaking such a large task and while I agree with many of the changes, I am concerned about one. That change being that the local plan will no longer be reviewed or approved at the state level. I believe very strongly that the support and backing from DOE are essential to providing services at the local level. Gifted Coordinators positions rotate frequently and in the rural areas have other job responsibilities. Without the experience and training in gifted ed provided at the state level, services at the local level will not be consistent and may become extinct.
