I was appalled to learn recently that there is a policy in place which has female inmates shackled during labor/delivery.  This policy serves no purpose other than to show how barbaric we are.  That we adhere to a policy which is considered unethical by medical professionals and which is not making anyone safer (how in the world could a woman giving birth be a threat to the public?) is disappointing and pathetic.  I urge you to end this practice immediately.
