Proposals to Gifted Education

I am disheartened to read the proposals to the Gifted Plan.  It seems we have completely forgotten who this plan serves....the students, our future leaders!

* REF: using the word "and" to include all four content areas

How can there be an additional burden to include all four areas in the local county gifted curriculum if there are no additional funds?  Each county locality would be better served if the wording is "or" so that the specific county can modify the curriculum based on the needs of the student population.  Also, the county would be aware of funding issues and what they can support as far as gifted services in the four content areas versus just English and Math, for example.

*REF:  local school board VS DOE approving gifted plans

No offense but our local school board members (as a whole) are not as familiar with the gifted student and their needs as the DOE.  Giving them "voting rights" so to speak without educating them does not make sense.

*REF:  funding

The money earmarked for gifted services should be used for that NOT left up to the discretion of county school board members.
