The gifted is not a population to sacrifice!

Virginia has an obligation to serve its gifted students. This proposal does not adequately do the job. It doesn’t even come close. As a parent, I would be looking at all possible alternatives to educating my gifted children. As a teacher of the gifted, this would push us back many, many years and the gifted student and child would be lost. This is not a population we should sacrifice!
I am appalled that this would even be considered. Virginia should be at the forefront in competing academically with the nation. Support of our schools that prepare students for exactly that should not even be put in jeopardy. I am a parent of two gifted children and a teacher of the gifted. This population of children cannot “get it on their own”. They need the guidance and direction of our very best or they will be lost! This cannot occur at all with the proposed changes.  This is a special education issue, NOT A POPULATION TO LET GO!
DO NOT ADOPT THE PROPOSED REGULATIONS. WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD.
