Gifted Education Proposals are Detrimental to Gifted Programs in Virginia

The proposed changes to Gifted Education in Virginia are detrimental to local gifted programs across the Commonwealth. VDOE needs to continue to be involved in local gifted plans rather than turning these plans over to be approved  annually by local school boards. It is very important that continuity and accountability  remains in  our gifted education programs. These proposals will aid in weakening gifted education in Virginia by watering down the local gifted plans and causing funding to be shifted to other programs. Our gifted students deserve better.

I am strongly opposed to the proposed changes. I sincerely hope those making such important decisons about gifted education will consider the impact these changes will make on students.
