National Exam for Assisted Living Administrator's

Say NO to federal standards for Assisted Living and a national exam for assisted living Administrators.  I have served in the Senior Living industry for over 13 years with operational oversight in multiple states.  I have been licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator in 4 states and have also been a Board Certified Healthcare Executive through the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Prior to working in the Long Term care industry I served as a hospital administrator for over 7 years.  While acute care hospitals are far more complex than assisted living communities or even nursing homes, they do not require that the Administrator obtain any sort of license.  Having said that, I think the current requirement that assisted living administrator’s in Virginia take a state exam is reasonable.  Expanding this requirement to include a national exam would be counterproductive to the goal of attracting and licensing highly qualified professionals to serve Senior’s residing in assisted living communities in Virginia.  Thank you for the opportunity to voice my opinion.  Don Lundin
