Concealed Carry Improves Societal Safety

Dear Virginia Department of Forestry,

Please accept this, my comment on the proposed amendment to Virginia State Forest Regulation 4VAC10-30-170.

I am surprised that concealed carry is not allowed in State Forests. Of all places where weapons usage should be least restricted, it should be in our forests.

Additionally, if a high percentage of Virginians bore weapons -- both concealed and openly carried -- it is clear to me that this would help deter crime. If I were an armed criminal, I would definitely steer away from a gunfight and steer towards areas where a lower percentage of armed citizens were present. It seems pretty simple to me.

Additionally, in this day where the rule of law will begin to break down as the economy continues its inevitable decline, society cannot continue to encourage the "government-and-government-alone-must-take- care-of-us" mentality. Although you can't have vigilante squads roaming the planet, government must start doing things that encourage a more self-sufficient society. The carrying of concealed firearms in State Forests is a small, but reasonable step to take in this direction.

Please support the amendment to the Administrative Code.
