Concealed carry in parks

Good Morning;

Even though I am now retired (temporarily) I have spent many years in County, State and Federal law enforcement organizations.  I have held a Federal Secret clearance for many years.  Because of my clearances, I have been investigated more times than I care to count.

Contrary to what you hear from the anti-gun crowd who insist that they have the right to violate the second ammendment of our national constitution, those of us who have concealed carry permits are NOT criminals cruizing the highways and byways in search of human targets to shoot.  How ridiculous can anyone possibly get.

Having been in law enforcement for so long, I also know that State and Federal lands are the favorite place for real criminals to grow their marijuana in an effort to bypass RICO enforcement against their personal property.   These people can not pass a background investigation nor can they legally be issued a concealed carry permit.

Criminals, by definition, WILL NOT comply with any federal or state law, regardless of any controls you may put in effect.  Park Rangers, can NOT be everywhere at all times and can NOT protect everyone in the park from preditors (human or otherwise) that may attack them.  As you know, you don;t have to shoot someone in order to have them bypass you.  Many times, all the bad guys have to do is SEE that a person is armed in order to not attack them.  Criminals don't like getting shot.

Enforcement of this issue is not rocket science.  In order to control the LEGAL carry of concealed weapons, all you have to do is ask if a person is carrying.  If the person tells you that they are carrying, simply ask them to show you their license.  If they don't have it with them, refuse them access to your park.  Anyone who is legitimate won't have a problem with that and, in fact, is required by state law to comply in the first place.

Have a great day.  Stay safe.

Kent
