I own farm and routinely travel between North Carolina.  I hold a concealed carry permit and general keep a firearm with me.  We have over the years had several hostile trespassers on the farm and in my view the presence of a firearm was a stabilizing influence.  Properly handled, the same is true while traveling or camping in the state parks.   Just knowing someone cannot possess a firearm invites criminal activity.
