Purpose of the meeting
Staff from the Department of Conservation and Recreation will hold a meeting to receive input regarding the Master Plan for Natural Bridge State Park. The master plan is the long-range plan for infrastructure, amenities, roads, funding and staffing at the park. The plan will be updated every ten years. During the meeting an overview of the park's assets, mission statement, goals and objectives will be discussed. These were developed by the Natural Bridge State Park Advisory Committee, which was formed to assist with the master plan. The committee is made up of local residents, government representatives, Natural Bridge experts, staff and park users. The committee, Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund (VCLF) staff and planners with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will recommend appropriate amenities for the park, based on site analysis and public input. A second public meeting will be held in 2017. The 1,200-acre park, a portion of the original 1,500 acre site, is off interstate 81 on US Route 11 south of Lexington, Virginia in Rockbridge County. The park site will be managed by DCR with the hotel and its environs being managed by VLCF. - Overview of relationship between VSP and Natural Bridge (DCR and VCLF) - Introduction to state parks master planning process - Present a visual tour of the property and site analysis, existing conditions and historic, cultural, recreational, and natural resources - Present land based opportunities and constraints - Present the draft purpose statement along with the goals - Review recommended park amenities - Open up the floor for comments and questions about process and information presented - Public Input session
