Purpose of the meeting
A meeting of the scientific advisory panel established to guide and assist the Department of Environmental Quality in determining the approach, scope and design of a study to reexamine the current chlorophyll-a criteria for the tidal James River (Water Quality Standards 9VAC25-260-310 bb). The overall goal of this study is to ensure protection of designated and beneficial uses of the tidal James River through the best science and regulatory approaches. The Panel will review the most recent scientific information related to algal communities and their relationship to designated and beneficial use. The first meeting will present the state-of-science on algal blooms in the James River and preliminary discussions for developing a work plan to improve our understanding of the causes and consequences of algal blooms in James River. The meeting is open to the public, but there is no planned opportunity for public comment.
