| Purpose of the meeting A joint public hearing of DEQ, the Virginia Department of Aviation (DoAV) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is being held to accept comments on the Environmental Assessment and federal consistency certification for a proposed runway extension at the Manassas Regional Airport located in the City of Manassas and Prince William County, Virginia. DEQ is reviewing an Environmental Assessment and federal consistency certification for a proposed runway extension as a component of the airport’s License Modification Application, and to determine its consistency with the Virginia Coastal Resources Management Program, as approved under the federal Coastal Zone Management Act. The City of Manassas proposes to extend Runway 16L/34R and make other improvements at the Manassas Regional Airport (HEF). Proposed improvements consist of: extending the primary runway and Taxiway B by 500 feet; relocating the existing Instrument Landing System localizer; installing an approach lighting system for Runway 34R; widening the runway and taxiway bridges; and relocating Taxiway K. The purpose of the proposal is to better accommodate the existing and future aircraft fleet, meet FAA design standards, and enhance safety. Anyone desiring to be heard in support of, or in opposition to, this proposed action may attend and have their comments considered by the DEQ, DoAv and FAA. An informational open house will be held at 6:00 PM, one hour prior to the public hearing. The comment period begins on April 27, 2009 and ends on June 5, 2009. All comments must include the name, address, and telephone number of the person commenting and be received by DEQ by the close of the comment period.
