I'm a licensed acupuncturist AND a physical therapist with over 30 years of PT experience. I feel the PT's are over stepping their boundaries by performing DN. Having dual licenses gives me a unique perspective for both professions. While acupuncture is a powerful and useful tool in treating patients, PT's should meet the same benchmarks as licensed acupuncturists if they want to handle needles. PT's needle trigger points, however, 90 percent of the trigger points coincide with acupuncture points. So, without being long winded, PT'S ARE PERFORMING ACUPUNCTURE WITHOUT A LICENSE OR PROPER TRAINING! PTs are totally ignoring the oath of "do no harm". PT's also have many modalities in which they can draw from, they do not need to invade another profession's modality. I'm curious to see what the PTS would do if another profession started to perform PRE exercises or perform myofascial techniques with little or no training .
