Dear Virginia Board of Physical Therapy,
As an Oriental Medical Doctor in the state of Nevada, it has taken me thousands of hours of practice to become a proficient and licensed acupuncturist. I do not believe the current practice of physical therapists using dry needles is safe. These practitioners have not undergone the rigorous amount of education in Oriental medicine and training in meridian diagnosis to treat patients effectively with needles.
Oriental medicine has been a practice and art in Chinese culture for thousands of years. One cannot just learn to use needles overnight. Neither can one learn to use the needles in just one hundred hours. Without the proper amount of practice and training, how can patients trust that they will be treated properly. These physical therapists should not be condoned to use these dry needles. The current practice is deplorable and should be ended.
Sincerely,
Linda Chow, O.M.D., L.Ac
