Mandate Information
Mandate Title:
Career and Technical Education Program Alignment and Alternative to CTE Credential
Purpose of legislation
Requires each sequence of courses constituting a career and technical education program to be aligned with state or national program certification and accreditation standards, if such standards exist for the sequence of courses. The bill specifies that this provision shall not apply to any program offered by industry in cooperation with a local school board. Creates an alternative to the current requirement that, in order to receive a standard diploma, a student must earn a CTE credential. This alternative would apply when a CTE credential in a particular subject area is not readily available or appropriate or does not adequately measure student competency, in which case the student must receive competency- 3 based instruction in the subject area to satisfy the standard diploma requirements.
