I know my children best! Please HELP me parent my children best! This amendment does not seek to censor books,but to allow parents the right to know about content in books their children will be learning from in our public schools. I have always tried to read every book that was assigned to all my children in order to have discussions. I would love to see the "value added" by learning from these books dealing with sodomy, bestiality, gang rape, degradation and worse. If I find, as my child's parent, that this information is offensive, then I can choose to remove my child from these lessons. In the notification letter give examples of the book's objectionable content, i.e. intense war scenes, explicit sexual activity, etc. But don't skirt the issue of "informing" me of objectionable material with a long list of possible reading material with possible objectionable content.  It is this shady activity that makes it necessary to even consider such legislation which is unfortunate for the vast majority of educators doing their job with sensitivity and following the existing rules. Be specific-it's the right thing to do. As a professional educator myself, I know about the overwhelming administrative demands of teaching, but just do the right thing, and "if in doubt, leave it out"! There are so many books available to choose from! All I ask of this amendment is to require schools to fairly and responsibly inform parents of questionable and sexually explicit content, so that as a parent I can fairly and responsibly respond to these educational "requirements" with my child.
