Support parental notification, opt out, and teaching of alternative books

Our son had a fine academic experience in FCPS, and we are thankful for that.

That being said, with so many wonderful literature alternatives available, there is much common ground on which there could be agreement. We urge authorities to teach from such books. In these times of limited financial resources, it makes sense to be the best stewards of our economic resources, addressing our focus on issues of economic necessity. Instead, funds and focus are being diverted to issues that unnecessarily offend many among your constituency . We are among the offended in some instances. Abundant resources are available that would be acceptable to all. We ask that parental roles be respected and that, at a minimum, parents be notified and given the chance to opt their children out of the study of materials they deem to be inappropriate.
