Please DO NOT adopt these proposed changes to regulations as currently written

Please do not adopt the proposed changes to the regulations as written.   I suggest creating a task force to include participants from the various school divisions around Virginia to help rewrite regulations with our gifted learners in mind during the process.  The taskforce  participants should represent  the diverse gifted learners that are in Virginia that are being identified and still need to be identified.   This task force of stakeholders should also include university professors to help create a new comprehensive document.

I am oppossed to the language which suggest creating a yearly plan versus having a 5 year plan that would outline for the school district how we will best serve gifted learners over the course of several years.

Please do not take the state oversight of the 5 year plan out of the regulations.  I think the peer review is a valuable tool for school divisions around Virginia as well as the gifted coordinators who value the opportunity to collaborate and incoporporate best practices in Gifted Education.  I  also believe having "checks and balances" so to speak  will keep all of us honest in this process.

Please reconsider  the 60 business days for determining eligibility of gifted services.  Our school district is one of the larger districts in Virginia therefore we will need additional days to make appropriate eligibility decisions for our students.

Please hear our voices and  do no adopt these proposed changes.  Please start the process over to include all the stakeholders including gifted students.

Additionally, I agree with the comments and concerns from :  The Virginia Association for Gifted as well as the VA Consortium of Gifted Administrators.

Thanks for the opportunity to write a comment and advocate for gifted learners in Virginia.
