Commenter: Virginia Brown, a GT Teacher, a Parent & Grandparent of gifted children

Please do NOT adopt these changes!!!

Why would the state of Virginia propose to repeal funding for programs for one of our most precious resources, our gifted children who may become tomorrow’s government and business leaders, engineers, doctors, teachers, or researchers?

Why would the state of Virginia put critical decisions regarding gifted education in the hands of local school boards who may have no expertise in gifted education?

Why would the state of Virginia want to bog down local administrators with more paper work, such as annual plans?

Yesterday, our superintendent encouraged aspiring principals in our county to focus on setting challenging, long-term goals, and moving our schools from Good to Great.  Will Virginia’s proposed regulation changes move our programs for gifted students in a similar direction?       I think NOT!
