Please Do Not Adopt Proposed Regulations!!!

I am posting to request that the proposed changes to the policies regarding Gifted/Talented Education in Virginia not be adopted. Putting these financial decisions in the hands of the local beuraucrats (many of whom have no idea what Gifted/Talented Education even is) is a death sentence to this program.

Part of the function of the Virginia Department of Education is to set standards and expectations for learning across the entire state. I can't imagine the state would ever consider giving this control to the localities to determine what programs/subjects are taught....why in the world does the state seem to be fine with turning over control of the GT program to the localities?

I ask that you re-work the proposed changes to reflect the recommendations proposed by the Virginia Association for Gifted.

Proceeding as is planned, will snuff out some very bright lights in our schools.
