Do not pass the New Gifted Regulations

The local gifted programs need the support of the state.  The school board needs to know the state approved the plan after careful examination of its services.  Virginia's gifted programs need continuity and accountability.

The Local Plan for the Gifted needs to be a five year plan.  Coordinators can edit yearly as long as services do not change in the plan.

The Board of Education should instead adopt the changes submitted by the Virginia Association for the Gifted, Virginia Consortium of Gifted Education Administrators, and Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted.  The changes recommended by these three organizations will maintain strong programs and move gifted students into the 21st Century.
