Against the proprosal

I am against the proposed changes for the gifted program in Virginia.  Allowing local school boards to regulated the gifted program in their divisions is not  a good idea because of their lack of training and understanding of the needs of gifted children.  Also the gifted programs need to receive funding earmarked specifically for them.  The No Child Left Behind Act has caused many schools to concentrate only on passing the SOLs and to neglect challenging their brighter students.  These are our future doctors, engineers, scientists, etc.  How can we be expected to keep up with other countries in these fields if we aren't willing to invest in the educational programs for our brightest students.?
